The Thing

Science fiction horror
Prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic. At the Norwegian Antarctica research site the discovery of an alien spacecraft buried deep in the ice leads to a desperate fight for survival with a shape shifting alien.

The creature can turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like any of the scientists but inside it remains inhuman. Paranoia spreads amongst the researchers as they are infected and taken over one by one.

American Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) joins the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time in the vast and empty wastes of Antarctica. They must stop the alien from escaping Antarctica to infect the cities of the World.

The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter’s classic 1982 film of the same name.

  1. Captioned perfectly. I had my own private showing as there was no one else in the Cinema at 9pm on a Sunday night. I hope Cinemas will show accessible films at more realistic and popular times.

Reviews of The Thing

  1. If you liked the original 1982 version of The Thing then you will like this. It is very much a homage to John Carpenter’s version and is a prequel to the events of the 1982 film.
Only slight gripe is that it doesn’t take the story or the plot of this ‘frozen-murderous-alien-who-comes-back-to-life’ any further than the 1950′s and 1980′s versions of this film. But as a monster feature in the desolate wastes of Antarctica it is superb.
